Smart lighting

Govee

One owner skipped a $5,000 install and put the lights up in 2 days.

I read 1,667 Govee reviews and looked at their 150 longest-running ads.

Three reasons to buy stood out: never climbing a ladder for holiday lights again, skipping a $5,000 installer, and kids who now ask for the TV lights. The review numbers behind these are small, so treat them as strong hunches to test. I made six ads, two for each reason.

Kids asking for the TV lights on movie night29 mention kids, 22 TV reviews mention family or movie night

Govee’s public review feed only shows 5-star reviews for the whole store, so I added product-level reviews, which leaned heavily toward TV backlights. Only 40 reviews in my pull were for permanent lights.

The numbers are small and the reasons are big. Permanent lights cost hundreds of dollars and the installer quote was $5,000, so these are worth testing before the holiday install season.

In their own words

“My husband tends to complain every time I want to put holiday lights up. So either I have to listen to him complain or I face my fears and get on a ladder and do it myself. Thank goodness I never have to do it again!”

Govee customer review

“I had two companies give me quotes, both in the $5k range for just the front and sides of the house... I installed the 200 light set myself in 2 days, which covered the front, sides AND back of the house.”

Govee customer review

“We can’t watch anything in the basement anymore without them asking if they can ‘turn the TV lights on’.”

How I'd test them

  1. The permanent-light ads run against Govee’s longest-running permanent lights ad (live about 388 days). The TV ads run against their longest-running TV backlight ad (about 312 days).
  2. Both run for 7 days to the same audience with the same daily budget.
  3. I’d judge on cost per add to cart for permanent lights, which cost hundreds of dollars, and cost per purchase for TV backlights.
  4. The permanent-light ads should launch in October, before people start hanging holiday lights.
  5. The winner gets the budget, and the next round builds on the reason that won.
